Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

What a year 2014 was! I decided to throw caution to the wind and embark on a dream, the husband made a huge career change, we moved… the list goes on. I want to give you the biggest of Thank You’s for reading my blog. It can be a lot of hard work, but I absolutely love doing it.

One of the best things to have come about as a result of really working to grow my blog has been some of the connections I have made with other bloggers… and in the height of all the holiday madness, one of my favorite bloggers, Erica at Girl, Organized, nominated me for a Liebster Award here. The “deal” with the “award” is really just to share some information about yourself, and I thought that it was the perfect way to kick off 2015, by giving you a little more insight into me, the blog, and my life outside of the blogosphere.

I started thePickleBee because I have a passion for cooking, and I wanted to share that with others. Far too often, people talk about how they don’t feel they have the time or talent to cook thoughtful, healthy meals for their family and I want to help show that anyone can cook! That’s one of the reasons I usually include photos through the process, so that even home cooks who lack confidence can see what things should be looking like as they are preparing the recipes.

Oh goodness… this is an impossible question for me. My “real” job is as the manager of a bookstore, so choosing a favorite book always feels very Sophie’s Choice to me. However, I will be happy to tell you some of my favorites – I adore The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian, it’s a fast paced story that uses the characters from The Great Gatsby in such a creative way. I love everything by Sarah Pekkanen, Tom Perotta, and Ken Follett. I love the epic fantasy series for kids like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. And I have a soft spot for classics – Jane Eyre, The Awakening, The Great Gatsby, and To Kill A Mockingbird are some of those.

I plan to work to take thePickleBee to a wider audience and work to expand readership and influence on social media, specifically with Instagram and Pinterest.

That was such a boring answer, wasn’t it? I also would love to take a few trips with the family, and go on a “getaway” type trip with the hubs – maybe to Europe…

Coffee. Must have the coffee. But that’s probably a very typical response. One of my quirks is that I always say hello to my house when I walk in, “Hello, House!” I know, it’s silly but I do it every time.

From a practical standpoint, Spanish.

I would love to write cookbooks for a living. Or travel. Or read books.

Oops. Christmas is over, but i did get a few items that were on my wish list, like a dish for my jewelry, some new earrings, and a new Texas A&M jersey (Gig ‘Em!).

My sisters and I always got matching Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve, and I brought this tradition back after Pickle was born. We may be grown up, but we still love our Christmas jammies.

This one Not so much for the recipe (although… omg. Delicious.) But because it is the first time I really took a picture of the finished product that I was proud of. Food photography is a struggle, and some of my first posts have some truly cringe-worthy photos. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m working on it.

So there you have it! A little bit more about me. Big thanks to Erica for her nomination – you should totally check out her blog if you need help with organization or want some tips on getting 2015 off on the right track.
